🕯️ IFS and Humiliation

Humiliation is the wound of being seen and shamed at the same time. In IFS, it’s not weakness—it’s the body remembering the terror of exposure without protection.

A hiding part may shrink, hoping invisibility will prevent repeat pain.

A defensive part may lash out, masking shame with anger.

A perfectionist part may strive endlessly to ensure it never happens again.

IFS doesn’t rush past the burn. It slows down and asks:

  • “Who still carries that moment of being shamed?”

  • “What are you afraid would happen if we remembered it?”

When Self meets humiliation with warmth, the body begins to release its freeze. The exile who once stood alone in ridicule feels seen without judgment for the first time.

Humiliation, through IFS eyes, transforms from degradation into dignity restored. It becomes the quiet knowing that being seen can once again be safe.
