Principle 6: The Principle of Cause and Effect
“Every Cause has its Effect; every Effect has its Cause.” — The Kybalion (1908)
A Journey Through the Law of Unseen Forces
This is the law of chains.
Not the ones that bind, but the ones that connect.
It whispers that nothing is random.
That what appears as luck, chaos, misfortune, or miracle is never truly rootless.
There is always a cause.
And every cause has consequence.
But here’s the riddle:
We almost never see the first domino.
A bird flies into your window.
You miss a train and meet a stranger.
You hear a phrase that cracks you open.
The law says: None of that was uncaused. There is always something behind the curtain. Always a breath behind the wave. And if you trace it far enough ,back through your childhood ,through ancestral choices, through ancient tides of energy, you’ll find a root. Not always personal. Not always conscious. But lawful. Always lawful. This is not karma as punishment. It is karma as continuity. The energetic unfolding of patterns. The unseen math of spirit.
You Are Not Exempt
This law doesn’t just govern galaxies. It governs you.
Every action you take.
Every choice you make.
Every word, every silence, every gaze.
They echo.
They ripple.
They generate.
Which means: You are not merely an effect.
You are also a cause.
You are not just a result of your childhood
.You are a participant in shaping what comes next.
You are not just here to endure what was set in motion.
You are here to initiate new motion.
This is both terrifying and liberating.
Because it means responsibility. And it means power.
But What About When It’s Not Fair?
Some parts of you may bristle.
They’ve seen cruelty.
They’ve felt the lash of injustice.
And they may say: “What did I do to deserve that?” “Why would I create this pain?” “Where was my choice in that moment?”
And the truth is those questions deserve reverence, not rush. They are holy protests. And this law is not an answer to them. It is a lens, not a verdict. It invites you to zoom out. To consider that the forces shaping your life are vast some personal, some ancestral, some collective, some cosmic.
You are not to blame. But you do belong to a web of causality. And that belonging means: You are not helpless. You are not trapped. You are not forgotten.
The Hermetic Teaching Is This
You cannot escape Cause and Effect.
But you can rise above it.
How?
By learning to cause deliberately.
By acting from Self not reaction.
By stepping out of the default role of “Effect” and becoming, as the Kybalion says, a “Cause on higher planes.” You can’t stop the waves. But you can choose which stone to drop. You can’t erase the past. But you can decide how to answer it. You can’t rewrite the whole pattern. But you can thread new color into the weave.
A Parts Work Reflection
Let yourself pause.
Gently.
Reverently.
And ask:
What parts of me feel at the mercy of this law?
Perhaps a part that believes it’s cursed as if no matter what it does, bad things will happen.
Or a part that tries to control everything as if managing every cause will finally bring safety.
Or maybe a part that feels ashamed.
As if it caused harm without knowing, and now must carry the weight forever.
Let each one speak.
Let none be shamed.
This law does not come to accuse. It comes to remind you:
You are not just the echo. You are also the bell.
Closing Thought
Every moment you move from presence, you shape reality.
Not always in grand gestures. Sometimes in whispers.
The hand you don’t raise. The word you do say. The silence you hold one breath longer.
All of it becomes thread in the tapestry of Cause and Effect.
You are not a victim of the universe. You are a living participant in its rhythm.
And the sacred truth is this: When you move from Self, your causes ring true. Your ripples bless the sea. And your existence becomes a hymn of harmony reverberating across the unseen planes of All.
