Metaphysics: KYBALION — A Parts Work Journey Through the Harmonic Law
Principle 7: The Principle of Gender
A Journey Through the Law of Inner Polarity
Principle 7: The Principle of Gender “Gender is in everything; everything has its Masculine and Feminine Principles; Gender manifests on all planes.”— The Kybalion (1908)
This final principle isn’t about men and women. It’s not about sex, identity, or physical form.
It’s a metaphysical law. It says that everything, from atoms to galaxies to your deepest thought, contains two energetic currents: the expansive, initiating Masculine and the receptive, creative Feminine. These aren’t opposites. They’re complements, two harmonics of one divine expression.
Think of sunlight and soil. Breath and lungs. A question and the space that receives its answer.
Nothing is made without both.
The Masculine impulse gives direction, movement, penetration, extension. The Feminine gives form, nurturing, holding, gestation. Their dance is creation itself. Without Masculine direction, creation has no aim. Without Feminine receptivity, creation has no womb. To embody this Principle is not to conform to social scripts. It is to recognize this polarity inside your Self—not just in intimacy, but in every creative act, every choice, every healing.
The Law as Pattern
The ancients believed this polarity exists on all planes: physical, mental, spiritual.
You see it in nature: the pollen and the bloom. In thought: the spark of an idea and the mind shaping it. In emotion: the urge to express and the inner space that receives what rises.
The Masculine speaks.
The Feminine listens.
The Masculine sends.
The Feminine gestates.
Neither is superior.
Both are essential.
The Kybalion invites us to balance these within—not to repress one and amplify the other, but to notice when your inner system is tilted, overexpressed, or in collapse.
If your life is all force and no rest, that is a wounded Masculine. If your life is all waiting and no movement, that is a wounded Feminine.
Healing means harmony.
But What About Parts?
This is where it gets profound.
In Internal Family Systems, many of us have parts that default to one pole of this spectrum.
Some parts push, drive, control. They move outward with fire initiators of change, protection, sometimes domination.
Other parts yield, collapse, accommodate. They soften inward—holders of grief, nurturers of others, absorbers of pain. But polarity is not pathology. It is simply energy frozen in imbalance.
A protector part who over-functions may be carrying distorted Masculine energy, a pressure to do, fix, perform. An exile who self-abandons may be carrying wounded Feminine energy, a pattern of yielding, merging, silencing. The work is not to exile these parts. It is to bring the Self — the I — into the center so both poles can come into sacred union.
This Isn’t About Gender Roles
The Principle of Gender is metaphysical, not political. It’s about the dual impulse that lives in all things not stereotypes, not binaries.
Your soul has nothing to prove. Your system is not wrong for leaning toward one current or the other.
What matters is integration. Letting each part have voice and letting the deeper Self hold them both.
Because true creation only happens when your inner Masculine and Feminine bow to one another.
When the sword meets the chalice. When breath meets belly. When vision meets embodiment.
A Parts Work Reflection
When you read this, what stirs?
Is there a part of you that tightens at the word “masculine”? A part that softens at “feminine”? A part that carries shame… or exhaustion… or longing around these poles?
Let them speak.
Let the part who pushes be heard.
Let the part who waits and aches be honored.
Let the part who rejects all of this as nonsense be welcomed too.
All of it—all of you—belongs in the field.
And the Self is not one pole or the other.
The Self is the vessel that can hold both.
Closing Thought
This is the seventh principle. It is the end of the Kybalion’s teaching, but the beginning of a lifelong inner marriage.
When you balance these forces in yourself, not perfectly but consciously, you become a holy site of creation.
You no longer live as fragments.
You live as fusion.
And from that fusion, you create not from distortion, but from wholeness.
Not from gender, but from sacred polarity.
Not from roles, but from resonance.
And that is the great alchemy. The union within becomes the union without.
