Al-Bāsit (ٱلْبَاسِطُ)

The Expander, The Reliever, The One Who Opens and Extends

Pronounced: al-BĀ-sitRoot: ب-س-ط (B-S-Ṭ) — to spread out, to widen, to extend, to make spacious

Original Invocation (Arabic Calligraphy):ٱلْبَاسِطُ

Sacred Reflection

Al-Bāsit is the One who opens what was closed.

The One who expands your lungs

after sorrow sat on your chest like stone.

He does not just give.

He widens.

He does not just bless.

He stretches your soul’s capacity to receive.

In Sufi knowing, Al-Bāsit is the divine motion of unfolding,

the branch reaching toward sunlight,

the heart softening after silence,

the space made within you

when you realize you are not confined anymore.

But this is not random expansion.

This is the perfectly timed opening

that only comes

after the stillness of Al-Qābid has done its work.

Al-Bāsit is the reminder:

God does not close without preparing to open.

And He never opens more than you are ready to hold.

So if you feel yourself expanding now,

your joy, your reach, your trust,

do not fear it.

You were made for this breath.

Parts Work Invitation

What part of you is afraid of expansion?

The one that whispers,

“What if I get too big?”

“What if something bad happens again?”

“It’s safer to stay small…”

Let that part feel the warmth of Al-Bāsit.

Let it hear:

I am not asking you to leap.

I am opening you slowly, like morning.

Let this part know:

Expansion is not abandonment.

You are not being forced.

You are being welcomed

into more of yourself.

There is room now.

There is breath.

And you are safe inside the wideness.

Let it stretch gently.

Let it feel:

I don’t have to stay small to stay safe.

The One who made you

is also the One

who is making space for you.
