As-Samī‘ (ٱلسَّمِيعُ)
The All-Hearing, The Listener of Every Whisper
Pronounced: as-Sa-MĪ‘Root: س-م-ع (S-M-‘) — to hear, to listen with attention, to be aware of sound and silence alike
Original Invocation (Arabic Calligraphy):ٱلسَّمِيعُ
Sacred Reflection
As-Samī‘ is not the One who hears sounds.
He is the One who hears souls.
Every sigh you never voiced.
Every prayer you forgot how to pray.
Every sob caught in the back of your throat
because you didn’t want to be dramatic.
He heard it.
In Sufi knowing, As-Samī‘ is not passive.
He is not a distant God with cosmic ears.
He is intimate listening.
He is attention.
He is nearness.
He hears…
The child part of you crying out inside your smile.
The “I’m fine” that meant “Please stay.”
The silence where words failed and you just wanted someone to know.
He hears in ways no one else can.
And He does not flinch.
He does not forget.
He does not ignore.
There is nothing too quiet for Him.
There is nothing too repetitive.
You don’t exhaust Him.
You don’t annoy Him.
You don’t have to rehearse it perfectly.
You just have to let it be heard.
And it already is.
Parts Work Invitation
What part of you believes it has to scream to be noticed?
The one that yells inside,
over-explains,
or stays silent because no one ever listened before.
Let that part come near As-Samī‘.
Let it hear:
You don’t have to perform your pain.
I heard you the first time.
I’ve always been listening.
Let this part know:
Even the wordless ache.
Even the numbness.
Even the cold quiet of “I don’t know what to say.”
All of it has been received.
You are not unheard.
You never were.
You are known in your stillness.
You are cradled in your cry.
And there is nothing you need to say
to deserve being listened to.
