Straight Meaning (Sikh-accurate)
Guru Nanak teaches:
The foundation of the world is Dharma, and Dharma itself is born from compassion.
Contentment is the thread that holds everything together.
Whoever truly understands this becomes aligned with Truth.
There are countless worlds beyond this world.
What power supports them all?
Beings come in endless forms, colors, and identities.
Each carries what is written for them.
Who can fully understand this vast accounting?
How immense is the power, the beauty, the generosity of the Divine?
With a single command, the Creator expanded the universe,
and from that expansion came countless rivers of existence.
How can one speak of such a creation?
I cannot even offer myself once in full appreciation.
Whatever pleases the Divine is the perfect action.
You, the Formless One, are forever stable and whole.
Sacred Commentary
This pauree shifts from the Suniai river into a cosmic panorama.
Guru Nanak is revealing the architecture of reality,
not to overwhelm the seeker,
but to dissolve the illusion that spiritual life is small, personal, or moralistic.
He begins with a bold declaration:
The world rests on Dharma,
and Dharma is the child of compassion.
This means the universe is upheld not by strictness or punishment
but by tenderness, balance, and care.
And the thread woven through it all?
Contentment, the quiet sufficiency that stabilizes inner and outer worlds.
Nanak then takes us beyond earth:
countless realms, countless beings, countless stories.
He is showing the seeker the vastness that lies beyond imagined limits.
And inside that vastness, he dismantles human arrogance:
No one can measure destiny.
No one can grasp the infinite ledger of life.
No one can contain the magnitude of Divine generosity.
Creation is a single utterance.
Existence is the echo.
The final lines are pure surrender,
not of helplessness, but of awe.
Whatever aligns with the Divine current is good.
The Formless remains untouched, unbroken, eternal.
IFS Lens
In the internal world, this pauree mirrors a profound truth:
The system is upheld by compassion.
Every part, protector, exile, burdened, hopeful, terrified, rests on a foundation of care
when Self-energy leads.
Contentment as the thread speaks to the moment when protectors no longer feel they must overwork or defend; stability arises naturally.
Countless worlds reflect the inner multiplicity, many parts, many stories, many lifetimes of experience within one person.
Destiny written for each being resonates with how each part carries its own history,
burdens, and roles.
The vast accounting no one can measure mirrors how even we cannot fully map
our own internal system, and don’t need to.
Creation arising from one command parallels the moment Self-energy appears:a
single presence, and suddenly the whole inner universe shifts into coherence.
And the final surrender, “Whatever aligns with You is the right action,”
mirrors the moment parts allow Self to lead,
not because they are forced,
but because they finally trust.
Trauma-Informed Practice (Curiosity Only)
As you sit with this pauree, gently explore:
How does my system respond to the idea that compassion is the foundation of everything?
Is there a part that struggles with contentment, or feels it is unsafe?
Do some parts feel vast, chaotic, or uncountable, like the “worlds beyond worlds” described here?
What happens inside when I imagine that every part has its own written story, carried for a reason?
Is there a part that softens at the idea of not needing to understand everything?
There is no ideal experience.
No required opening.
No correct emotional response.
Your system is wise in whatever arises, whether that is resonance, resistance, neutrality, or numbness.
This is the practice.
Closing Reflection
Pauree 25 reminds us that existence is immeasurable, and yet compassion is the thread running through it all.
Your inner world, too, is vast:
many voices, many stories, many worlds.
You don’t have to master or map any of them.
You only need to listen gently.
For when compassion becomes the ground,
and contentment becomes the thread,
your entire inner cosmos begins to steady.
May you feel how large you truly are.
May your parts sense the tenderness beneath every movement.
And may this pauree remind you
that the Formless holds you gently,
even when you cannot yet feel it.
