Every witch who picks up the work of shadow eventually arrives at the same threshold the place where she realizes this practice will not leave her the way it found her. This lesson is the foundation: where the term came from, what the shadow actually is, why it holds gift as well as pain, and why the witch's reading of it is not the polite therapeutic version.

There is no healed witch. There is no version of her that arrives at the other end of this practice with the work permanently completed. What there is what she has actually been building is the witch in conscious, ongoing relationship with her shadow.
